Network of Exchange of Information and Experiences among Latin American and Caribbean Countries to Prevent, Discourage and Eliminate IUU Fishing

In the city of Panama, on 4 and 5 of October 2017, It was launched the “Network for the Exchange of information and shared experiences between Latin American and Caribbean countries to prevent, deter and eliminate IUU Fishing”, in the legal framework of the regional proyect FAO TCP/RLA/3604 “Enhancement of the capacities and measures to prevent, deter and eliminate the Ilegal Fishing, no declares and no regulated in Latin American countries”.

Objective

Facilitate the exchange of information and experiences for decision making to prevent, discourage and eliminate IUU fishing, through cooperation among participating countries.

Organic Structure and Functions

The Technical Secretariat:

Peru assumed the Technical Secretariat of this network, thanks to the consensus of the participating countries and will have the following functions:

  • Coordinate the operations of the network.
  • Maintain communication with the focal points.
  • Socializar pertinent information and of the interest between the countries of the network.
  • Convene virtual or presencial meetings.
  • Process the requests about the needs of information and the enhancement of capacities.
  • Stablish synergies with other networks, organizatins, between others, with commun interests.

National focal points:

Each participant of the network will designate a focal point that will have the following functions:

  • Provide the required information by their counterparties and/or technical Secretariat.
  • Attend convocations emitted by the Technical Secretariat
  • Coordinate and provide information at national level.
  • Provide the oficial contacts to the Technical Secretariat

Income from other countries:

countries parties of the Agreement about the measures of the port state control, intended to prevent, deter and eliminate the Ilegal, unreported, and unregulated fishering, and the countries that express the interest to be part of the Network, for that reason, these countries should present to the technical secretariat a form that manifest the interest to join the Network.
