Evento paralelo sobre pesca INDNR celebrado durante el primer día del COFI33
Un evento paralelo, titulado "Avances en la lucha contra la pesca INDNR", fue celebrado el primer día de la trigésima tercera sesión del Comité de Pesca (COFI), con una asistencia de aproximadamente 120 delegados.
El evento de una hora de duración se celebró en la Sede de la FAO, en Roma, Italia, el lunes 9 de julio de 2018 y contó con la participación de expertos en pesca que trabajan a nivel mundial, regional y nacional.
Matthew Camilleri, Jefe del Servicio de Operaciones Pesqueras y Tecnología (FIAO) del Departamento de Pesca y Acuicultura de la FAO, ofreció una visión general de los avances e iniciativas globales llevadas a cabo en el campo de la lucha contra la pesca INDNR, incluida una actualización del Acuerdo sobre las Medidas del Estado Rector del Puerto (MERP).
Alicia Mosteiro, Oficial de Pesca de la FAO del servicio FIAO, hizo una demostración del Sistema de información del Registro mundial de buques de pesca, transporte, refrigerado y suministro (Registro mundial), y brindó ejemplos prácticos de cómo la herramienta puede ser útil para los Estados rectores, los Estados ribereños, y los Estados de Pabellón, y para la implementación del MERP y los instrumentos complementarios. Durante el mismo evento, el Sistema de Información del Registro mundial se lanzó oficialmente al público.
José Romero, Director General de Supervisión, Fiscalización y Sanción de Perú, habló sobre las diversas iniciativas regionales que se están llevando a cabo para combatir la pesca INDNR y la Red regional recientemente lanzada para ALC .
David Agnew explicó el proceso y la razón del desarrollo de las directrices técnicas de la FAO sobre metodologías para estimar la pesca INDNR, con miras a realizar estimaciones más consistentes y confiables en el futuro.
Roberto Cesari, Jefe de la DG Mare, Comisión Europea, detalló la forma en que la Comisión Europea maneja las cuestiones de pesca INDNR, incluidas las repercusiones para los países afectados y los beneficios, en los últimos años, de discusiones informales que conducen a un mayor cumplimiento de las regulaciones internacionales y regionales.
El evento paralelo finalizó con una presentación práctica de las iniciativas emprendidas por el puerto de Vigo en los últimos años para aumentar la transparencia y la rastreabilidad en los productos pesqueros. La presentación estuvo a cargo de Enrique C. López Veiga, presidente de la Autoridad Portuaria de Vigo .
